Hello. My name is Uzma ( ooz-ma). I am a Registered Psychotherapist Qualifying with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I hold a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Yorkville University. I also hold an undergraduate degree in medicine (M.B.B.S) from Karachi, Pakistan.

I have several years of working experience including a year of medical internship, observer-ships, and hands-on experiences in Canada under experienced family physicians and psychiatrists. My experiences range from treating physical ailments to counseling individuals and families with mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, bullying, domestic violence, post-immigration adjustment, and acculturation issues.

I specialize in treating teens and adults with diverse ethnic, and racial backgrounds facing issues ranging from mood disorders like anxiety, depression, relationship stress, low self- esteem, workplace stress, poor time management skills, attachment issues, phobias, and acculturative stress in immigrants.

I utilize scientifically evidence-based modalities that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills incorporated within CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), client-centered, narrative therapy, trauma-focused CBT, ERP CBT approaches. I utilize an evidence-based integrative and collaborative approach, according to client’s concerns and requirement of treatment, keeping in mind the importance of culturally sensitive values of a client.

Having my roots in South Asia and lived an experience of both Middle Eastern and Canadian cultures as an immigrant, I can strongly relate to the cultural values and beliefs of the respective regions and understand the racial and acculturative stress which an immigrant individual experiences. I strongly believe in practicing an empathetic, nonjudgmental, positive, and collaborative approach towards all my clients irrespective of their age, gender, or ethnicity, as a building block of strong and stable therapeutic relationships for long lasting outcomes of the client’s desired goal.
