Jason Stotts, M.A., RP, CCC

I have been practicing since early 2015 and have a diverse clinical background, including experience in sex therapy, trauma, depression, anxiety, couples counseling, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and addictions/recovery. I have worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups, in many diverse clinical settings including private practice, inpatient, and outpatient rehab. I have significant experience working with healthcare workers, first responders, and injured workers. As a general rule, I only work with adults 18+, except in cases of family therapy.

I utilize a collaborative approach to therapy where I’ll explain what we’re doing and why and we’ll engage in the process together. I’ll also help you to confront and hopefully change the things holding you back in life. Therapy can be challenging, but can help you to live a better life.

====Areas of Specialization====

Human Sexuality and Sexuality-Related Disorders

  • Such as “sex addiction” or Out of Control Sexual Behaviors (OCSB), anorgasmia (inability to orgasm), erectile issues, premature ejaculation, open relationships, kink, and performance anxiety.
  • I can help with issues related to sexual orientation, sexual identity and coming out. I am LGBTQ+ friendly.
  • I can help you talk through your kinks or fetishes and how to optimally incorporate them into your life. I am kink and fetish friendly.
  • I can help with issues around changing the structure of a relationship, such as opening a previously closed relationship or the closing of a previously open relationship. I am happy to work with monogamous and nonmonogamous couples (such as swingers, polyamorous couples, etc.).
  • I would describe myself as very sex positive and I will not negatively judge your sexual choices as long as they are among consenting adults.
  • Please note: Sex therapy is talk-based. It does not involve nudity or any sexual interactions between therapists and clients.

Trauma and Stress related Disorders

  • Such as PTSD or Adjustment Disorder from a variety of causes.
  • I have worked with survivors of rape, car accidents, injury, abuse, etc.
  • I have significant experience treating first responders (police, fire fighters, EMTs, etc.) for PTSD and cPTSD (complex PTSD).
  • I have significant experience working with trauma from injuries and workplace injuries, victims of sexual assault and rape, and victims of sexual abuse.
  • I generally use either Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to treat trauma and stress related disorders as these evidence-based practices have the highest rates of success.

Mood disorders

  • Such as Anxiety and Depression.
  • I can help if you’re regularly feeling anxious or like something bad may happen.
  • I can help if you’re often feeling sad, have no energy, and feel like maybe there’s no point to anything anymore.
  • I can help if you’re having thoughts of ending your life or seriously considering doing so.

Relationship and Couples’ Therapy

  • Such as affairs and relationship conflict.
  • I am supportive of, and comfortable working with, all kinds of couples, including those who are monogamous, ethically non-monogamous (such as open relationships and swingers), or polyamorous, etc.
  • I can help you navigate and work through entrenched relationship conflicts and help to find mutually beneficial outcomes.

Grief Counseling

  • Grief counseling (sometimes called “Bereavement Therapy”) can look like many things and while it is usually about the loss of a loved one (partner, child, family member, or even a pet), it can also be about a permanent injury, or the loss of the expected course of your life.
  • I can help you to understand and work through your grief.

Philosophical Counseling

  • I am also a qualified philosophical counselor and can help you explore philosophic and existential questions such as meaning in life, questions related to purpose, ethical concerns, etc.
  • I can help with working to build a meaningful life, including after leaving a religious tradition.
  • If you desire, I can recommend philosophical readings to support our work together (whether or not we engage in philosophical counseling).

Other Issues

  • If you’re interested in working with me on other issues, feel free to reach out and I can tell you whether I think I can help. If I don’t think I will be able to help, I can help you to find another psychotherapist or psychologist who may be better suited to help.

====Special Populations====

In addition to treating general population adults (18+), I have significant experience with the following populations:

  • LGBTQ+
  • Ethically Non-Monogamous (ENM) people, including swingers, open relationships, and polyamorous people
  • Kink and fetish communities
  • High-IQ and “Gifted” people
  • Healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses, therapists, etc.
